    Story of the ring

  • My Grandmother had 4 sisters, and all was well until the death of her father in 1875. after that she had to go live with a rich family and be their servant girl.

In about 1884, she met and fell in love with Richard who was a breakman for the hocking county railway system.

Grandma gave birth to her son July 26 1906. He died shortly after birth. Then 4 days later, fate would take her. Richard was very distraught and he turned over the household to his eldest daughter Vera.

Grandma was buried in mt calvary cemetery in the ender family plot, with her father and all of the other ender's were.

Grandma was taken in the prime of her life, left 6 children, and a husband.

Found in a little box at my grandma's was her wedding ring, inside it was inscribed with the initials of the man who loved her. I felt so humbled by being the recipient of this beautiful ring, and knowing who it belonged to.

I wanted to send you the little note to give thanks once again for these lovely views you've provided on this page. It is quite shockingly generous of people like you to provide without restraint what many individuals could possibly have made available as an ebook to earn some dough on their own, mostly considering the fact that you might well have done it in case you wanted. Those points also acted like the fantastic way to fully grasp that other individuals have a similar interest similar to my very own to know significantly more on the subject of this condition. I'm certain there are millions of more fun instances in the future for many who see your website.

True or not the story brings back memories. My Father passed from Alzheimer's, before he lost all memory he gave me all the family photos. As an avid photographer there are 6 boxes full dating back to my great grand mother. This story reminded me of the last time we were able to have loving father daughter time. He passed one year later.

Although a fictitious story it is a lovely example of memories that can be shared. I have my great-grandmother's wedding skirt and button-up shoes, my mother's wedding dress, as well as my own and my daughter's. My great-grandmother's dress is from 1905, my daughter's from 1995. My granddaughter is only 13, but she will make a lovely model for those dresses. Some day she may even add her own wedding picture to the collection.

Wedding rings

When my grandmother passed in 1966, my mother inherited her ring, as the only daughter. She offered it to me, but as soon as I placed it on my finger, it was obvious I wasn't the one to receive it. Her brother's daughter had hands and fingers like our grandmother: long and slender fingers. My mother and I decided to offer it to her, my younger cousin. She was delighted and when she placed it on her finger, it was obvious that the ring was supposed to go to her; it looked like it had been on her finger for years. They were a perfect match. My cousin passed in 2008 and now my aunt has it. I know the ring will let her know to whom it should go next. After my mother passed in 1999, I inherited both her wedding rings. Her first one was a slender gold band with five small diamonds. Her second was a on her hand when she passed and the hospital had to cut it off. After I had it repaired, I wore it for years. Whenever I feel the need to feel close to my mother, I do wear it. I will decide which son will get hers and which will get mine. I had Mother's first ring resized for my pinkie. I hope to pass it to my granddaughter on her 18th birthday.

The Story of the Ring

EdanaDaithiadded this on 6 Feb 2010
The story of our family ring went back to at least my great great grandmother. It was actually a man's ring, just a simple 1/2 inch band of gold. My GG grandfather wore the ring, and then gave it to his bride as a wedding ring in 1880. When she passed, the ring went to the eldest son, who in turn wore it for several years then gave it to his bride. Pa Tate, my great, grandfather did the same, but his first marriage ended in divorce when his wife ran away with the local school teacher taking an infant, but leaving a two year old son, one gold earring, her wedding ring behind. My grandfather wore that ring for more than 15 years before he married my grandmother, and of course the ring was her wedding ring. They had been married more than 30 years before becoming grandparents, that first grandchild was me. From the time I was a child, I am now 64, I knew I was to be married with that ring. At the time of my marriage I just could not accept the ring as my grandfather was dying, and I knew Grandma had never taken it off since her marriage. We agreed that when she was ready, I would take the ring, wear it on my right hand, and pass it to my son. She gave it to me on her 100th birthday, while the local news station was filming her birthday celebration with five generations of females. My granddaughter was five weeks old. I gave the ring to our son when he was 35 and unmarried, it was the oldest possession in our family. As he travels with his job, he asked me to keep the ring until he married. A week ago a man who had been helping my husband build a porch on the front of the house, stole seven rings from my jewelery box. Of course he got that ring along with a couple of others I had inherited. We know it was he, because his little sister got a black safire ring for her birthday. And he dropped another one in his sister's house, who knew that ring was mine. Those, of course we recovered, but not the band. I was told several times to put those rings in a safety deposit box, but I just could not think of not having them with me. Please, if you are lucky enough to have an heirloom protect it. Don,t be as stupid as I was and think no one would bother trying to burgle a house as simple as ours. We let him in.

Today wedding rings are NOT buried with the deceased. They are removed before the coffin is sealed. And I have to agree, this is a SAMPLE WRITING, why did it open the gates and let emotions flow through?

Story of the ring

v_gollahonadded this on 1 Jan 2010
Although this was a ficticious story, as stated at the beginning of this site, it could very well have been based on actual events of some family of the times. Many mothers died very young and left rather large families, mine included. It may have been rare to have had a ring to leave in the first place unless they were pretty well off, but I have tin types and jewelry from my ancestors back to the early 1800's, so that too could have happened. Come on people, wake up and read what you are looking at! Good story!

When my mother passed away, my father asked if he should take her ring off. I said, "No. She wore it all those years without taking it off. Why would we do it now?" It was her ring, a symbol of her devotion to dad. Of course it was his choice alone. The ring was left on her. Each family has to make these decisions for themselves.

Guys, the story is fiction. It is just trying to demonstrate that it does not have to be perfect to have meaning. Poeple whom, have read this found meaning and reflected back on their history even though this story is complete fiction. If we do not write about our families because we are afraid of not being perfect, think of the memories that will be lost.

Re: LuLu551 You don't know that for sure. Maybe her choice was to not wear her wedding ring when she died. I seriously doubt that you knew this fine lady and I'm sure that you weren't there at her funeral to see her in the casket and see that she had the ring on her finger. Don't make "off the wall" comments like that unless you can prove it.
