LCDR JAMES E. EIMES U.S. NAVY

James Earl 'Jim' Eimes, was born on the 7th of Sept. 1950, in Louisville, Kentucky. Jim is my 1st cousin.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1969 and received training as a nuclear machinist's mate propulsion plant operator. He served as a protoype nuclear plant instuctor from 1970 until 1973, when he was selected for the Naval Enlisted Scientific Education Program. He earned a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in nuclear engineering from Purdue University (1977). Upon completion of his University degrees, he was commissioned as an esign in the U.S. Navy in 1977. Mr. Eimes was selected by Admiral Hyman G. Rickover for duty at Naval Reactors (a joint program of the Department of the Navy and the Department of Energy) with cradle-to-grave responsiblity for the reactors aboard all U.S. Naval nuclear-powered warships. He retired from the Navy in 1989 as a Lieuteant Commander and contiued to work at Naval Reactors as a civilian.

Over the course of Mr. Eimes' career, over 9,100 officers and 39,100 enlisted personnel were successfully trained and certified as Nuclear Propulsion Plant Watchstanders for the U.S. Navy fleet duty.
