circa 1941
sometime during WWII – France
Sgt. Robert Paul Judd was awarded the Silver Star for heroism under fire in France. His platoon was held back by a line of German's fortified with a line of machine guns and mortars. Judd, alone, crossed an open field under intensive fire and silenced two of the machine gun nests with grenades.
His exploits also held the attention of the Germans long enough that the others in the unit were able to poke holes in the German line. His unit's advance continued.
