Sergeant John Jackson Edwards

In Bedford county, Va, he volunteered in October 1776 and served six months against the Cherokees, marching to the Long Island of the Holston and holding the rank of Sgt.

volunteered in April, 1777 in the Bedford militia, marching to Richmond and Petersburg to join the command of General Steuben.

volunteered for another three months in 1778 in the fall of 1778, fougth aginst the Shawnee Indians on the Greenbriar (River)

volunteered in May, 1781, for a tour of duty to the south to join Gen. Greene, serving as orderly Sgt., and fighting the battle at Ninety-Six

volunteered again in response to the general call to the militia in August, 1781, to go to Yorktown but the company recieved word while on the march that Cornwallis had surrendered and thus they were allowed to return home.

Pension was granted in the amount of $77.50 per year.
