Davis, Thomas William , Captain in Major Auke Wikoff's Batallion, third reg, Monmouth county, NJ, Regiment. Attached to Col. Asher Holmes "First Reg., " Monmouth county Militia, June 1, 1777, and served every alterante month that year. Served six monthly tours in 1780 and seven tours in 1781. Captain Davis is listed in the Seventh Day Baptist Church book as of Sept. 6, 1789, with nine other families, starting from Shrewsberry, NJ, on a journey to settle in Virginia. The other families continued their journey to what is now Salem, WV, where they establisted a Seventh Day Baptist community. Three sons of Captain William Davis also served in the Revolutionary War- Nathan Davis (b. 1741), William Davis (Greenbrier Billy- b. 1758), and Rev. John Davis (b. Jan 1, 1754).
