1972 1976 – Blyetheville AFB Arkansas
I was in the last year of the draft in 1972. I find it comical that a district judge in Florida ruled that our government can not force Americans to buy health insurance because if they can force me to enter the military during war time against my will, they can do anything else they wish to do. I didn't agree with the Vietnam War so I joined the US Air Force solely to avoid combat in Vietnam. I was not a coward, I just didn't believe the lies that my country was telling about Vietnam and I find it sad that more than 58 thousand died in that war and hundreds of thousands more were maimed and forgotten and here we are forty years later doing it all over again in Iraq and Afghanistan.
I did my basic at Lackland AFB then was flown to Lowry in Denver where I completed tech school. My primary base was Blyetheville in Arkansas where I remained until discharged. I was promoted quickly, 37 months and I was an E4 and I promoted to E5 six months later.
