Charles Steinmiller kept in touch with a lot of his buddies by sending Christmas cards every year until the time they dwindled to a few and then they stopped. When I finally located and met Stuart Corning Jr. and he gave me his diary I had gained access to about 30 soldiers at the time they were together. But Charles’s diary not only gave me more soldiers but a record of their movements since they last saw one another. This was truly a wonderful document to further my research on the men. So let us review the men who were entered into Charles’s WWII diary and served with the 965th Engineers.
