Company B, "Lane Guards" of Pickens County, Alabama

2nd Alabama Infantry Regiment, “Magnolia Regiment”

On January 11, 1861, Alabama seceded from the Union. During April 1861, The Second Infantry Regiment was composed of companies, which flocked to the seaboard at the first call of the State, and enlisted for a year. The 2nd Infantry Regiment, called “Magnolia Regiment”, under Col. Harry Maury, was organized at Fort Morgan at Mobile Bay, Baldwin County, Alabama. Its members were raised in Calhoun, Pickens, Franklin, Monroe, Clarke, Mobile, and Jackson counties. The regiment formed the garrison at Fort Morgan, serving as infantry and artillery, until March 1862, when it was ordered to Fort Pillow in Tennessee. Kennerdy James "K J" Bailey Jr., Confederate Soldier

 

On January 11, 1861, Alabama seceded from the Union. On 19 Feb 1861, in Pickens County Alabama, Corporal K J (Kennerdy or Kennedy) Bailey (Jr) and his brother L D (Lawrence DeCody) Bailey, the sons of K W (Kennedy William) Bailey and Mary Polly Perry enlisted within Company B, "Lane Guards" under Captian Thomas C. Lanier

On 26 Mar 1861, they were sworn into service to the (CSA) Confederate States Army by Lieutenant F A Sharp for the period of one year at Fort Morgan at Mobile Bay, Baldwin County, Alabama, into Company B, "Lane Guards" 2nd Regiment, Alabama Infantry.
